Welcome to our 2022 Spotlight Series! 2022 marks the fifth year doing our Spotlight Series. We felt the fifth anniversary would be the perfect time to reintroduce all of our outstanding doctors. Up this week is Dr. Gardner who has been with the practice since 2005!!

Dr. Rachel Gardner (and Stella)

Hometown: Grew up in Annapolis, Maryland

College/University/Vet School: Cornell University- Undergraduate, veterinary school and residency.

Areas of Interest: I love anything medicine related, but especially gastrointestinal disease, hepatic disease and neonatal medicine. Most of all, however, I love any critical case where I have an opportunity to save a life.

What do you love about being an equine vet: I entered veterinary medicine as a way to make a career out of my love for horses and science/medicine. What I have learned along the way, however, is that for me the absolute best part of being an equine veterinarian is helping people in their time of need with their horses. I am passionate about caring for horses as a way to care for the people who love them.

What is your favorite activity to do outside of work:
This is a very long list, as I rarely sit still. I love running marathons (weird, I know), and happen to be running my eighth consecutive Boston Marathon in just over a week. Despite working on horses all day, I still love to spend much of my free time riding and being around horses. I also really love just being home working outside and taking care of our little tiny farm.

If you could give one piece of advice to horse owners, what would it be:  I’m not sure I have any good advice, but I will say that I think the healthiest horses are generally those with the most turnout!
