Allyson Shively

Allyson is originally from Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, and has had a passion for horses from a young age.  Although she did not grow up in an equestrian family, her parents supported her interest by enrolling her in hunter/jumper riding lessons, which sparked a lifelong career in the equine industry.  She continued riding throughout college before shifting her focus to equine breeding and reproduction.

Allyson graduated from Delaware Valley University with a bachelor’s degree in Equine Science, specializing in Breeding, an associate degree in Equine Management, and a minor in Business Administration.  Following graduation, she completed the Kentucky Equine Management Internship, spending ten months in Lexington, Kentucky, on a Thoroughbred breeding farm.  During her internship, she gained extensive hands-on experience in all aspects of breeding operations, including foaling mares in the spring before transitioning to yearling management and preparing horses for major sales.

After completing her internship, Allyson returned to Pennsylvania to be closer to her family and accepted a position as an Assistant Equine Manager at a private breeding farm.  While equine reproduction has been a significant focus of her career, she has always aspired to work in veterinary medicine.  Her passion for the medical side of the equine industry, combined with the opportunity to learn something new from every case, continues to fuel her enthusiasm for the profession.

Allyson joined B.W. Furlong & Associates in 2026 as an Overnight Veterinary Technician and is excited to continue expanding her knowledge and developing her skills while providing exceptional care to patients.

Outside of work, Allyson enjoys spending time with her husband, Josh, exploring with their two dogs, Maui and Pua, and cooking and baking. She also loves gardening, especially planting flowers and growing fresh vegetables to use in the kitchen.
