Lindsey Johnson, DVM, DACVS

Dr. Lindsey Johnson is a New England native, where she grew up competing in the hunter-jumpers, and first developed a strong passion for the equine athlete. While completing her bachelor’s degree in biology at Ithaca College, she was a catcher for the varsity softball team, and participated in undergraduate research in the field of neuronal regulation of cardiac function. She then attended The Ohio State University for her veterinary education where she participated in research projects focusing on equine endocrinology and neonatal sepsis.

Upon matriculation from academic veterinary training, Dr. Johnson then completed a rigorous hospital internship at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, KY where she was able to further cultivate an ever-growing interest in equine surgery and a love for the Thoroughbred racehorse. Dr. Johnson then moved further west to complete a large animal surgical residency at Michigan State University, where she published a research study with Dr. Sue Holcombe and collaborators, evaluating clinical responses to a novel post-surgical treatment option for equine patients diagnosed with torsion of the large intestine. During her residency, Dr. Johnson received specialized training in areas of veterinary medicine including soft tissue and orthopedic surgery, emergency and critical care, diagnostic imaging, and anesthesia from board-certified veterinary specialists. She continued to return frequently to Rood & Riddle for additional training in surgery, anesthesia, and imaging. Dr. Johnson completed her surgical residency training in July of 2021 and moved back to the east coast to begin working in equine private practice as a surgeon. During the spring and summer of 2024, Dr. Johnson spent several weeks providing emergency medical and surgical care at Michigan State’s Large Animal Hospital. Dr. Johnson’s specific clinical interests include lameness and sports medicine, laparoscopic and abdominal surgery, upper airway procedures, and emergency surgical care. In the clinic, and on the road, Dr. Johnson thoroughly enjoys working with other veterinarians and veterinary technicians in collaborative efforts to provide the best care to our beloved patients!
Dr. Johnson is the proud owner of a 1994 model Thoroughbred-Welsh pony, named Andy. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking and adventuring with her two beagles, Huckleberry Finn and Tommie Sawyer, and their beagle-dad, Stephen, hunting for antiques, collecting house plants, and cheering on The Ohio State Buckeyes!
