Dr MegSpotlight Series: Dr. Meg Mullin

Over the first 18 weeks of the new year, we will be conducting one on one interviews with each of our veterinarians in an effort to help you get to know all of them better! In addition to the interview, they will be posting pictures on our facebook account during their week to share some behind the scenes images of their day to day. We hope you enjoy following along!

Up this week is Margaret “Meg” Mullin, VMD. Dr. Mullin is one of our ambulatory practitioners, and has been with our practice since 1998! She is currently splitting time between Wellington and NJ. If you are in either of these areas, keep an eye out for Dr. Mullin and Lucy, her adorable dog!

Q: Tell me about your first meaningful memory with an animal.
A: My family always had animals in the house, from Gladys the tom cat to Rowdy the lazy English setter to Happy the Horse, along with parakeets, gerbils and turtles. We were an equal opportunity animal family!

Q: Do you remember a specific moment when you decided you wanted to be an equine vet?
A: Vividly. For me it was an AHA moment. White light, voices, “wow you could have been a vet, aaah you still can” so I did!!!

Q: What colleges/universities did you attend? When someone asks “where did you go to school?” what do you tell them ?
A: I went to catholic school for 14 years, including my first 2 years in College at Chestnut Hill.  There I could keep our horse by sharing it with my older sister. I transferred to UVA (my brother’s school) where I learned how to play polo! I graduated with a BA in Math. Eventually I followed my heart and went to University of Pennsylvania Vet school.

Tell me about the animals you own now.
A: Just Lucy, the offspring of Brendan’s black and tan Wizard and Carol Thompson’s brown dog. 5 litters and 17 adorable puppies later we get to see her pups and grand pups everywhere! Her first born is Lizzie Chesson’s, Rags. I’ve had cats in the past; one year the trip home from Florida with my 3 cats (all black of course), Lucy, and 3 pups! 7 critters and me :-).

Q: What do you do for fun, outside of work and spend time with your animals?
A: I spend precious moments with my nephews, family and friends. I enjoy yoga, polo, tennis, and skiing (which is a bit of a commute from Florida, but worth it when I get to do it).

Q: If you weren’t a vet, what would you do for a living?
A: Probably what I did before vet school: riding, training and selling horses. That passion that began as a five year old winning the Exercise Class has lasted a lifetime! Or a plastic surgeon.

Q: What’s a good book you’ve recently read and enjoyed?
A: The Good Good Pig. One of the many wonderful books a client has given me.

Q: What is the hardest thing you’ve ever accomplished?
A:  It’s yet to come!

Q: Favorite place you’ve ever traveled to?
A: I have been blessed to travel to many amazing places for clients, with the USET and for holiday. Most recently I️ went on a spiritual journey to Bali. It’s a magical, mystical place. I love  Hawaii, my favorite island is Kauai!  Australia is another amazing exoctic place that I truly enjoy.

Q: Favorite adult beverage?
A: Too many to choose from but ok, Cristal.

Q: Favorite sports team?
A: I am A Diehard, Season Ticket holding, green Bleeding, Eagles Fanatic.  Flying High Now after the Super Bowl win! And Yes I️ was at THE Parade!

Q: Something most people don’t know about me.
A: I am shy, LOL!  I am also a Reiki master.

Q: I am obsessed with…
A: Football! The EAGLES! See above! FLY EAGLES FLY! Also, horses. Sounds cheeky but they have been the biggest motivating force in my life since I was 5.  They are behind every major decision. From where will I go to college(twice), to how will I earn a living(twice), to how will I spend time with friends, to watching clients perform in Grand Prix’s and traveling the globe with the USET.

Q: If you could have a gigantic billboard anywhere with anything on it — metaphorically speaking, getting a message out to millions or billions — what would it say and why? It could be a few words or a paragraph. (If helpful, it can be someone else’s quote: Are there any quotes you think of often or live your life by?)
A: My favorite quote of the moment, until mastered, so for the rest of my life, is by the Dalai Lama: “Be kind whenever possible. It’s always possible.”
