Employment Opportunity: Associate Surgeon
Employer: Brendan W. Furlong, MVB, Equine Veterinarian, PA
Employment start date: Immediately

Who are we?

B.W. Furlong & Associates was founded in 1982 by Dr. Brendan Furlong, and has steadily grown from a one man operation to a practice of 21 clinicians and over 40 support staff and technicians. The practice includes a veterinary hospital, imaging center, surgery center, and rehab center in Oldwick, NJ, an imaging center and office in Wellington, FL, and ambulatory services offered in Oldwick, NJ, Ocala, FL, Wellington, FL, and in other seasonal locations.

We pride ourselves on being progressive leaders who deliver the ultimate in veterinary care; among our 21 clinicians, we currently have 6 specialists in internal medicine, reproduction, sports medicine, and surgery. Members of our team have also supported US and Canadian Olympic, Paralympic, World Championship, and Pan American competitors for generations.

We invest in our organization and people, in the forms of continuing education, investments in technology and resources, and the creation of new positions as demands and needs change. We encourage strong relationships through advanced training, team building activities, events, and a culture of open communication.

Where are we?

New Jersey is the east coast’s best kept secret, with our headquarters located in the idyllic countryside of Hunterdon County. The area offers easy access to New York City, Philadelphia, and the Jersey Shore along with hundreds of miles of hiking, biking, and riding trails and endless outdoor activities. Most staff live within a 30 minute drive of the practice and are able to commute without taking major highways. For those raising a family, a number of schools in the area offer award winning school systems.

What will you be doing?

Due to growing demand, B.W. Furlong & Associates is looking to add a second surgeon to our veterinary team, based out of our New Jersey hospital. Our horse population is primarily sport horses, and our practice has an established reputation for excellence in lameness, advanced imaging, and rehabilitation. The ideal surgeon’s clinical interests would align with one or more of these fields, to supplement their surgical caseload.

We have a strong network of referring veterinarians that have trusted us with advanced imaging and rehabilitation for the past decade. We are working to expand our hospital services to this same network, and have seen steady growth over the past several years in these areas. We believe that an expansion of our surgical team is an important step in supporting this continued growth.

You will soon be working in a brand new facility, which is currently under construction. This new hospital will include 30+ stalls, two surgery suites with two recovery boxes, Hallmarq standing MRI, Qalibra CT, nuclear scintigraphy, a 4-stall isolation building, a covered arena for lameness evaluations, and an 8-stall rehabilitation facility.

The ideal candidate will have exceptional interpersonal skills to help foster relationships with referring veterinarians, a collaborative approach to medicine, and a commitment to providing world class care for our patients and clients. Board-eligible surgeons are encouraged to apply – scheduling can be adjusted to allot dedicated study time during the first year. Candidates will be required to obtain a New Jersey license.

On call would be limited to surgery only, and shared with our other staff surgeon, and local relief surgeon(s) as available. Surgeons are not asked to admit cases into the hospital – they are only called to come in when surgery has been deemed necessary.

Our compensation package includes: a minimum annual salary of $135,000, commensurate with experience, plus production bonus, on-call emergency fees and other monthly “per instance” bonuses, signing and relocation incentives, health and welfare benefits including medical, dental, and vision insurance, a student loan repayment program, 401k with 3% employer contribution, profit sharing, Paid Time Off (annual, flex time opportunity, CE), Employee Assistance Program, Long Term Disability insurance, license and association membership fees, CE annual allowance with paid time off, AAA membership, mileage reimbursement or company vehicle; logo wear, and discounted veterinary products and services.

Brendan W. Furlong, MVB, Equine Veterinarian, P.A, d/b/a B.W. Furlong & Associates, provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, ancestry, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, religion, age, disability, gender identity, results of genetic testing, or service in the military. Equal employment opportunity applies to all terms and conditions of employment, including hiring, placement, promotion, termination, layoff, recall, transfer, leave of absence, compensation, and training.
